DONOR MOTHER SPEAKS TO LIONS

Lion leaders from several western states and Canada gathered at a conference in
West Valley City during the week end of April 18-19 to discuss leadership and
the TTT program. While there they had the opportunity to hear from Ms. Cheryl
Carter, who lives in St. George, tell about her family's experiences with the
eye donor program. Cheryl's 20 year old daughter, Jamie, was given medicine
that she was extremely allergic to and it caused her death. Jamie has let it
be know previously that she wished to donate her organs in case of her death,
so Cheryl had it done. Through the process she became acquainted with the Utah
Lions Eye Bank and several of the staff people there. She said she was very
thankful for the Utah Lions and the Lions Eye Bank for making it possible that
parts of Jamie could go on living. One of Jamie's eyes went to a 29 year old
woman and the other went to her own grandmother. Pictured are Jamie and her
grandmother before Jamie's death. The other picture is of Cheryl relaying
her story.
