HAPPY NEW YEAR 2007
Greetings from District 28T and your District Governor!!!
I hope each of you had a wonderful Thanksgiving and Christmas and also a bright New Year. Also I wish each of you a year full of surprises, blessings and fulfillments of all that you need or want. Have you made your New Years resolutions yet? I quit making them as I don't usually keep them anyway past the end of January.
Dear District 28T Officers, Club Officers and Members,
I would like all of the lions in our district to know how proud I am of you. I have been hearing of all the great projects and fund raisers that you are participating in. I wish I could belong to each club because you are all having such a good time making this world a better place to live.
As a district we have gained a net total of 20 new Lion's members. I was honored to induct the first woman Lion member in Monticello , along with 3 other new Lions, one of which was her husband. Payson has new members, as does Ephraim. Keep up the good work.
I would like to extend a Big THANK YOU to the Salina Lions Club and all of the hard working members who made our convention one of the best I have ever been to. You all really raised the bar; it would be hard to top all that you did. Thanks again, I love you all; you made me look so good.
My year is half over and I still have many clubs yet to visit. You do not need to have a fancy meal or a big meeting, although I appreciate the extra effort. Give me a call and let me come and visit with you. My home is 435-445-3519 my cell is 435-851-7709.
We have been very lax in sending out the newsletters that should come to some of you each month. If you would like to receive this by email please let me know your address and I will see that it comes to you that way. Since my computer crashed I have lost a lot of my information, my email address happens to be one of the things I lost.
As a district we would like to express our condolences to the families & friends of the fallen Lions. We have had some good people leave us this year. Please know that are thoughts and prayers go out to each and everyone of you.
I would like to wish you all a Happy New Year. And the best of luck with all of your projects, fundraisers, & membership drives. If I can help in anyway, please contact me, I would be glad to work with you.

Lions of District 28T
Below is copy of a wonderful write up on our northern district's effort in generating funds for the Lions Eye Bank.
December 11 of this year I had an eye operated on at the Moran Eye Center in Salt Lake . I had a few minutes before the procedure so I visited the Lions Eye Bank and had a great visit with Georgia Lewis and learned briefly what they do there. Even viewed the collected eyes in their special containers. What a wonderful program.
On behalf of our Washington Lions Club, I salute you.
Sincerely,
Rick Evertsen, Pres.,
Washington Lions Club

Preservation of sight gets $7,900 boost
The September Harmons/Lions breakfast project raised $7,900 to support vision treatment and research projects in Utah . A check was presented to the Utah Lions Foundation at the recent District 28-U Lions Club Convention. It will be used to support vision treatment and research projects in Utah .
Bob and Randy Harmon of Harmons stores presented the check. The project included nine Harmons stores and 20 Lions clubs from Ogden to Draper. Harmons donated all of the food, and the respective Lions clubs cooked and served.
According to Bill Barton, member of the Hunter Lions Club, as many as 400 people receive eye tissue transplants each year in Utah . The partnership with Harmons helps support the Utah Lions Eye Bank at the Moran Eye Center that harvests, stores and distributes corneas to those awaiting a transplant. The eye bank also supplies tissue for research and educational projects.
Lions clubs furnish eye examinations and buy eyeglasses for the needy throughout the year and do vision screening and other sight-saving projects.
I'm happy to report that 2007 is kicking off in high gear. On Tuesday, Jan. 9th, Good Morning America (currently the #1 rated morning program in the U.S.) will be doing a segment on designer eyewear - specifically, how to pick a frame to suit the shape of your head. However, we have arranged to have 50 Lions attend the program that morning (special
thanks to PID Bob Klein for coordinating). During the segment on eyewear, there will be special mention of the Lions Eyeglass Collection program, and the segment host will make it a point to tell the viewing audience "Don't throw out your used eyeglasses. Donate them to your local Lions Club. For more information regarding the Lions eyeglass recycling program, go to their web site, www.lionsclubs.org." And GMA will show the Lions in the audience. We are sending Good Morning America a Lions eyeglass collection box as well, in the hope they will show the box on air. This was a total team effort between the public relations and international service activities divisions, and a great example of how divisions within LCI are working well together, and achieving success through coordinated efforts.
Good Morning America averages about 8 million viewers per show, so even a 30 second mention helps us reach a significant national audience.
NEW BUSINES:
I wish to apologize for not sending out the newsletter before this. Mary and I both have had computer problems, sickness and family sickness also. I will try and see to it that you are updated on all news. Thank you for your patience.
We are still missing quite a few of the clubs dues. I will send each of you a statement showing which clubs are in arrears and how much is due. Please send in any dues that you owe at this time as this is the only way the District functions. (Please be patient with me as I am just learning QuickBooks to do the invoices.)
I have had the opportunity to talk to quite a few of the clubs presidents and secretaries. This is something I have enjoyed doing. Please feel free to send me any reports, remarks or suggestions that you would like the District to tackle. I have a new email address effective immediately and it is rowhitey@gmail.com so please jot this down. My home phone number is (435) 529-2279.
