DISTRICT GOVERNORS MESSAGE
Fellow LIONS it appears that spring has finally come, and with it high hopes new growth. I am excited to see all of the changes and new members in the clubs I have been privileged to visit. I am always amazed at the work and service that our LIONS members accomplish. You all deserve many ROARS.
Just a reminder that our MD Convention is coming up, I will be having our last cabinet meeting of my term during this convention. I would like to encourage you to come and report on what you did this year.
The Bountiful club is planning a great time for all who attend. Remember to get your reservations in early; I am looking forward to visiting with all of you.
I would like to remind you that we need to keep up on our reports and dues that go to LIONS INTERNATIONAL and to the district. I did not realize how important they are until now. It is by these reports that International calculates your dues and the district also goes by these reports. They tell of the amount of activity that is being done by your club, your new members or dropped ones. The PU101 reports tells who your new officers are and this is vital information. So please make sure that your club is current on all reports.
The MERL team is planning a great training for all new club officers. The first one will be May 18th & 19th. in Cedar City. The second is planed for August in Price. I know that these trainings are very beneficial for the leadership of your club. Please take advantage of this opportunity. For more information contact Mark Nelson 586-5500 or Leonard Miller 637-0002.
If you have not held you elections for new officers I encourage you to do so ASAP. International changes officers on July 1st. That is when our new District Governor Rick Irish will take charge of our district. I would like to see our district in top shape with all clubs and their members in good standing. Lets give Rick a top-notch district to start with.
I do thank each and every one of you for all that you do for your LIONS Clubs, your communities and our district.

Our International President Jimmy Ross has sent an important announcement. My youth and my experience as a rancher has brought me close to nature. A rancher knows the effect that water and drought has on pastureland. Ranchers must know the optimum season for breeding and calving. And every
rancher knows that overgrazing is a short-term expediency that will eventually put a rancher out of business. Making a ranch successful requires a healthy respect for the environment and diligent management for
12 months out of the year. There is no season in which a rancher gets to just sit back and watch things grow.
Like a successful rancher, I ask that you continue your hard work this month and up to the last day of your term in office. The Lions year is almost gone but there remains much work to be done. The paradigm shift that I have advocated has sprouted green and healthy but has not yet put down solid roots.
Among the healthiest sprouts, I am proud to say, has been our family membership initiative. In just two months, 5.1 percent of all Lions Club members have become registered as part of a family unit. A part of this
increase is due to a net gain of more than 2,000 women members in the month of February, part of a very positive trend that has taken place over the last decade. Please continue to emphasize the benefits of family memberships and to target specific groups, including women, as potential members of your club.
This year, we have reached out to Leo Club members by inviting them to the International Convention in Chicago and providing programs that will be especially meaningful to them. Please remember to include Leo Clubs in your area in as many activities as possible and consider forming new Leo Clubs under your sponsorship. http://www.lionsclubs.org/EN/content/pdfs/leo_conv_agenda.pdf
Your participation is needed to help us gauge the effectiveness of the new ideas spreading throughout the entire association. Please tell us about the results of your Club Renewal efforts by going to
http://www3.lionsclubs.org/ClubRenewal/ClubRenewalWelcome.aspx
People involved in their communities are typically also concerned with local politics and in many places this is election season for area officials. While remaining strictly neutral and not endorsing any candidate, you can
enhance your club's prestige and visibility in the community by inviting candidates of all parties to take part in a public forum.
Thank you for all you do and I look forward to serving with you during this
home stretch of our leadership year.
Sincerely,
Jimmy M. Ross
International Presidency

I would like to encourage you to get your articles and pictures into Lion Ray Truitt P.O. Box 231 Fountain Green UT 84632 or email: rtruitt@burgoyne.com, I would really like to see something from each club this time. If you have anyone who has passed away please let Ray know so that we can put him or her in with our other fallen Lions. Lets let District U know that we are getting it done.
The Multi-District convention in Bountiful is well on its way to a big success.. I would encourage you all to attend; this could be a very important meeting for our state as a whole. There has been some talk of consolidating the two districts. Because our membership is down in both districts we are in transition. I feel that we can get our membership up and get out of transition. We are not that far away if each club would get at least 5 new members we would be out of transition. I am enclosing a convention registration form to fill out. All of the instructions are on the form. This is a very important convention and we need to be there to voice our opinions. Most clubs will at least pay some of your registration fees. HOPE TO SEE YOU THERE!!!!!!

DUES, MMR REPORTS AND ACTIVITY REPORTS.
1). We are still missing some of the clubs district membership dues. I am in the process of rebilling those who have not paid as of this date. We are drawing closer to the end of this year’s term and I encourage all the clubs that haven’t responded as of yet to do so. All district dues were supposed to be paid by May 7th. Remember, this is the only means the District has to function and do what is needed to keep current also with LCI. As our current District Governor stated, we need to have all the dues in by the time the new District Governor, Rick Irish, takes office.
2). I have a way for you to send the district your MMR reports and do it on line at the same time. LCI said if you will save your report by clicking on the disc icon found at the top in the tool bar and put in a file name that your create. Then you can go back into your files and print the report out and send it to the district. If you have any questions email me at rowhitey@gmail.com or call me at (435) 529-2279 and I can talk you through this. I am assuming the most of you are using the computer system to submit the MMR reports but I wish to encourage you to send the District Secretary a copy also. Also I need a copy of your 101 reports so that I can start on the new directories so we can have them done by the time the new officers take place.
3). As far as the activity report this should come to the club every month along with your MMR report so the district can see how your club is doing and may be able to offer any suggestions or aid some clubs that might need help. ☺☺ ☺☺☺☺ ☺☺☺☺ ☺☺☺☺ ☺☺☺☺ ☺☺☺☺ ☺☺

TRAINING
Don’t forget the officer training that is being held in Cedar City this coming weekend, May 18th and 19th. The Cedar City Lions will host an evening dinner and a luncheon on Saturday will be provided. The Crystal Inn does provide a buffet breakfast as part of the registration at their Hotel. Call Crystal Inn directly at 435-586-8888 to make reservations.
The rate for lodging is $72.00+ tax, of which $50is to be paid by he District. So, the only cost to the participants will be approximately $25.00 (balance of lodging) and transportation to Cedar City.
We would encourage each of the incoming Presidents, Secretaries, Treasurers and Membership Chairs to attend this meeting. Because of the additional T Training that will be provided, other Club officers and members are also invited to attend and take part in the training.
If officers or members of your club are unable to attend this training session a repeat performance is scheduled in Price on August 24-25.
