Utah Lions clubs and Harmons grocery stores joined forces to raise money for Sight Preservation. The two organizations hosted seven Chuckwagon Breakfasts on Saturday, September 13 at seven Harmons stores, from Ogden to Draper with 19 Lions clubs working. This was the 10 year the fund raising breakfast has been held.
Helping the Hunter Lions at the West Valley store were members of the Bountiful Lions and the new West Valley Lions. The West Valley Harmons location also featured the Utah Oldtime Fiddlers playing some old favorites in tandem with breakfast.
"This breakfast is a fun family get-together", Bob Harmon, of Harmons stores said, "It is a great project for a great cause".
This is the tenth year for the event with Harmons donating all the food at their many locations along the Wasatch Front and 17 Lions clubs participating on the same day.
All proceeds will be donated to the Utah Lions Foundation that will pay for cornea transplants, research and eye treatment. According to the Utah Lions Eye Bank they distribute more than 400 tissue donations for cornea transplants each year, and there are more than 100 people waiting for eye transplants at any given time. The Utah Lions clubs also conduct local projects of eye screening, eyeglasses for the needy, and Diabetes, organ and tissue donation awareness. A new project, The Utah Lions Eye Initiative, that involves cataract surgeries, is conducted through the cooperation of the Moran Eye Center.
